A Very Good Common Cake, from A New Method of Domestic Cookery C. 1824. I really enjoy this cake. I usually make a buttercream with rose water and lemon zest to go on it. It's a nice lemony cake. The first day or so it's fairly soft, then it becomes more crumbly kind of like a large coffee cake.
