Ideas to sub in for fresh tomatoes in a basil pesto recipe?

I tried a new walnut basil pesto potato salad; the recipe calls for cherry tomatoes which I omitted bc I don’t like the taste or texture of fresh tomatoes. I can tell this dish is lacking some acid balance. Any ideas?
