Need help with cottage pie!

So I recently made some delicious beef and vegetable stew and I’d like to utilize it for a nice cottage pie. It’s a little on the soupy side so I figured I’d add in a cornstarch slurry to thicken it up a bit. Beyond that, I’m wanting to do something tasty and creative with the dough part of it! Any advice on making a crust for this?
