I started reading the Little House books to my kids a few days ago, and it made me remember how much I absolutely loved descriptions of simple, homey, hearty food from books I read growing up.
Here are some examples that hopefully can clarify what I mean a little bit better!
Food in Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder
The epic feasts in the Redwall book series by Brian Jacques
The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge
Lunchbox from A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter
These are just a few that I remember, but basically simple homemade goodies that take you away to a different time and place. I want to put together a little picnic for my kids and try to capture a little bit of that culinary nostalgia/magic if that makes sense.
I don’t want to come across as needing my hand held for something so simple, but I’m just not naturally very creative and I would love if anyone could recommend recipes that might kinda fit that general theme, or heck even an example menu I could follow. I hope this isn’t too vague, and that I was able to get my idea across somewhat.
Thanks in advance and please let me know if this post is better suited for a different sub, or if there is anywhere else I might cross post to for feedback. :)
