Has any one ever gotten a "bad" egg?

Most recipes or youtube cooking shows say that you should break eggs into a separate bowl in case you get a bad egg (or drop in some shell). I bake a lot and I have never gotten a bad one, or at least I don't think I have. I think it'd be pretty apparent if an egg was bad....

Have any of you gotten a bad egg or is this an old wives tale from a time before expiration dates?
