My grandparents were together for 60 years until my grandmother passed away this winter. Since then, my grandpa has been struggling to cook while living on his own, because he never really did any cooking while she was around.
He told me the other day that a recipe called for him to "simmer onions in butter", and he ended up melting down a pound of butter and boiling the onions in it. So to be clear, we're dealing with a complete beginner here. He also mentioned that his typical meals are oatmeal for breakfast, and a lunchmeat sub for lunch and dinner. I'd love to help him get a bit more variety in his diet and be happier with what he's eating.
I'm looking for recipes/videos I can send him that would be easy enough for him to follow, but also would be good for someone cooking alone, and for the tastes of an older guy (nothing too spicy or exotic, for instance). Also, if anyone has a good way to learn cooking terminology, that would probably be helpful as well.
