Hi everyone. I just spent a month in China (Beijing and Shanghai) and absolutely loved the food. The vegetarian options, the tofu, the baozi. I miss it all and would love to learn how to cook some of those real authentic dishes. Does anyone have any family dishes they'd like to share or a website they go to for real Chinese dishes? Thanks so much!

Fish Tacos
This is a pretty straightforward recipe. I chose an avocado salad over a slaw topper because I think avocado adds a nice touch without overpowering the taste of the fish itself. In the future, I might experiment with some different slaws, but for now I'm happy with the way this recipe turned out.
Now, I ate my fish tacos on homemade gorditas, a recipe I will post if anyone is interested, but my husband ate his on store-bought corn tortillas and was just as happy. I'll let you decide what you want to wrap your fish in, and if enough people are interested in homemade gorditas, then I'll post that recipe as well.
Ingredients:
- 2-4 tilapia filets (thawed)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup broken tortilla chip peices
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 tbs chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1-2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 avocado
- 1 tomato
- 1 small onion
- 1 tbs lime juice
- tortillas (homemade or store-bought)
Directions:
-
Mix your tortilla-chip pieces, flour, and spices and spread them out over a large plate.
-
Beat your egg in a bowl and set it aside.
-
Fill the bottom of a frying pan about an inch thick with oil. Turn the stove up to medium-high heat.
-
Once the oil is up to heat (it should sizzle when you flick a drop of water into it), take your fish fillets and dunk them one-at-a-time into the egg mixture, the bread mixture, and the hot oil.
-
When you are coating the fillets in the flour mixture, it's easier to lay one side directly over the top of the crumbs, then cover the exposed sides with the excess crumbs surrounding it. Press the flour mixture firmly into each side of the filet and lightly shake off any excess before gently placing each on in the oil. Depending on the size of your pan, you may be able to fit up to three fillets in the oil at a time, but I usually stick with one or two just to be safe.
-
After the fillets have cooked for about 6 minutes (or until the color is a deep golden brown) on each side, then transfer them to a paper-towel-covered plate to cool and absorb the dripping grease.
-
While your fillets cool, go ahead and cube your avocado, tomato and onions. Mix them together and sprinkle the lime juice, as well as some salt and pepper on top.
-
Heat up some of your favorite tortillas, then top them with the fried fish and the avocado salad.
Enjoy!

A Little Pad See Ew? (Pork and Seafood BBQ)
Pad See Ew is a pork and seafood barbecue that is -- despite it's appearance -- both light and amazingly delicious. Give it a try.
Ingredients:
-
1 Tbsp. fish sauce
-
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
-
2 teaspoons light soy sauce
-
1 teaspoons sugar
-
2 teaspoons white vinegar
-
2 medium clove of garlic (peeled and minced)
-
8-12 ounces of sliced meat marinated in 2 teaspoons light soy sauce and a teaspoon of baking soda (I like to use pork and seafood. You can use whatever you have.)
-
16 ounces of fresh, flat and wide rice noodles
-
1-2 cups of something green: That is (in my choice anyway), Chinese broccoli or regular broccoli and occasionally some scallions
-
1/2 cup oil (I tend to like high temp oil)
-
1-2 large eggs
-
2 tablespoons of sweet dark soy sauce
-
Finely, a little thai chili sauce, just for fun
Directions:
Mix together the sauce, filled with fish sauce down to minced garlic and set aside.
Place the chicken in a small dish with soy sauce and light baking soda.
Put the rice noodles in warm water, allow to sit for a bit and then drain and set aside.
Give the greens a little splash in some boilg water. Just enough to get them softened and then drain and set aside.
The rest of this dish is assembling using a wok or at least a good high dutch oven.
Heat up the oil and get it going, then add in the egg, soy sauce and let that cook for a minute or two. The add the noodles, the marinade, the meat and last, the greens. Dizzle with a little soy sauce and you're ready to go.

Searching for Authentic Hungarian Goulash Recipe
Hungarian Goulash is my absolute favorite - I had it in Austria as well as at a German restaurant in the US (they serve it as a soup). I'd love to get an authentic recipe from Hungary. I know there are a bunch of variations online, but does someone have a traditional family recipe I could try?
Purple Cabbage Cake
Ingredients:
1/2 purple cabbage 1 roll of puff pastry 1 red onion 250g firm tofu 2 tsp salt 2 tsp cumin seeds 2 tsp five spice powder 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
What you need to make purple cabbage tart:
Blender A mixing blow Hand blender Baking pan
First I preheat my oven to 220° C. Next I chop the cabbage and the onion and then put all in the blender. I combine in a bow all the ingredients and mix them adding tofu, salt, cumin seeds, five spice powder and extra virgin olive oil. Using the hand blender I quickly mix all the ingredients and have a soft mixture. Finally I carefully put puff pastry in my baking pan and start to spread the purple mixture. I bake the veggie tart for 35 minutes. I made this veggie tart for the first time and I have to say that I was happy surprised from its light, refreshing and fruity taste, due for its delicate natural flavor and for the exotic aroma added by the five spice powder.

Hot dogs in macaroni and cheese:
Ingredients:
-Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
-hot dogs
step one:
-Make the hot dogs and the Macaroni and Cheese.

Fun Bonus Steps:
-If you wanna get really crazy, you can try eating the Macaroni and cheese separately from the hot dogs!
