When the British took to drinking tea, they used to boil tea leaves, throw away the water, and then eat the leaves. It was bitter, and rubbish, but somehow it was pedestrian to admit that.
And to some extent I see this today also. If you do not like bitter and foul tasting tea, you are not a connoisseur, but the ordinary riff raff.
So for the ordinary, uncultured, riffraff among us, here is how a full bodied tea is made, which is delicious, warm and seriously tasty.
So here are the ingredients: I will assume 1 cup is 200ml.
Ingredients
- 1 part milk, 3.5 parts water. So 400ml milk and 1400ml water, i.e. 2 cups and 7 cups.
- Ginger finely chopped 1 teaspoon per 4 cups volume. So if you make 9 cups, use 2 teaspoon chopped ginger
- Sugar : 1 teaspoon / 100ml. Or 2 teaspoons/cup
-
1 tablespoon black tea leaves/3 cups So how do you do it. Lets make 9 cups. You can keep it in a thermos and have it whole day
-
In a saucepan add 2 cups of milk and 7 cups of water
-
Add 14 teaspoons of sugar. If you do not have a very sweet tooth add 10. Add ginger
-
Switch on the burner at max and wait till the brew comes to boil
-
Lower the burner to min, and add the tea leaves (3 tbsp)
-
Raise the flame and reduce it a few times
-
Leave it on low for 3 minutes or so
Tea is READY!!
Tips
- If you find your tea a bit bitter reduce tea quantity
- Use 2% milk for best results
- Sugar can be reduced further, tea won't be bitter. Go down to 2tbps/9 cups.
