My super southern Baptist grandma made a dish called Mush for me when I was a child, it was my absolute favorite thing she cooked. My mom tried so many times to get the recipe, but grandma would never give it up. Grandma passed away during my teenage years and my mom tried a few times to make Mush for me, but it just wasn’t the same. Everyone I’ve ever asked about it has never heard of it.
It was a mixture of cornmeal and leftover ham that was boiled off the bone and shredded. I’m guessing something was added to bind it together then the mixture was pressed into a loaf pan and refrigerated. It could be eaten cold, but it was best when fried in a smidge of bacon grease in a cast iron skillet until a crispy golden crust formed on the outside and the inside became a creamy mushy like consistency. Man I’d give anything to have my grandma cook it for me one last time.
Soo has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Thanks in advance guys.
