Substitute for rice because of allergies?

I'm planning to make Chicken Mulligatawny for some friends over the weekend and it calls for some basmati rice but one of my friends is allergic to rice. I really like the way the rice adds to the recipe but I obviously don't want her to get sick. What can I substitute for it instead? Every article I've tried to find is saying to substitute it because of health reasons, not allergies. What would be a good switch for basmati rice while not taking away from the recipe or texture? As far as I know my friend is allergic to all types of rice, but not all types of grain so any advice is appreciated.
