Hey everyone, and happy mother's day. Due to my job, I'll be moving to Angola in a few weeks. They dont have any McDonald's there, and while I eat healthy food every single day, theres nothing I enjoy more than their cheap, basic cheeseburgers at 3 am after a night of drinking.
I know I could make something way better and tastier, but thats not the point.
As far as I know the ingredients are as follows:
-
Bun
-
Beef patty
-
American mustard (What if I cant get American? Whats a good substitute?)
-
Ketchup (I think they sell the original McDonald's ketchup in bottles nowadays, right? So no issues there)
-
American cheese
-
Dill pickle (or another kind?)
-
de-(and then re-)hydrated onion ( Can I buy those in a grocery store? Does it make a difference if I use fresh white onions?)
Thats it right?
The process should be clear. Form meat patty, salt, pepper, put on the grill/pan, smash, put cheese on top, assemble on bun with the rest of the toppings.
My biggest concern is the bun. Any idea how to make it at home? It has a nice sweet flavor, and I love it in contrast with the beef and ketchup etc... Is it a brioche typ of bun? Someone suggested hawaiian king sweet rolls, but I doubt I can get them in Angola.
Also, how can I make sure that the bun stays soft?
Thanks so much!
