[homemade] Palak Paneer - A combination of Spinach with Indian Cottage Cheese

Palak Paneer

Ingredients to make Palak Paneer:

  • Spinach - 1 cup (washed)
  • onions - 2 medium (finely chopped)
  • tomato - 1 medium (diced)
  • Paneer cubes - 100 grams
  • turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
  • garam masala powder - 1tsp
  • cumin/jeera seeds - 1 tsp
  • milk cream - 1/4 cup
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • garlic pods - 2
  • ginger - 1/8 tsp
  • sugar - 1 tsp (optional)
  • oil as required
  • water as required
  • salt as required

Method:

**Preparation Time:**10 mins | Cook Time: 20 mins | Serves: 2-3

Step 1 - Making Spinach Puree:

  • in a vessel, add water (4 cups) and boil it
  • once boiled, put spinach and a pinch of turmeric powder in it. cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Filter the excess water and pour a cup of cold water on top
  • wait until it comes to room temperature

This step is to retain green color of Spinach

  • In a mixie jar, add the spinach, cut tomatoes, garlic pods and ginger
  • blend it into puree
  • Spinach puree is ready now. Keep this aside

Step 2 - Preparing Palak Paneer:

  • in a vessel/pan, add oil
  • once hot, add jeera/cumin seeds and let it splutters
  • add finely chopped onions, saute until it turns translucent
  • add the spinach puree we prepared along with 1/2 cup of water
  • close with the lid and cook for 10 minutes on medium flame. saute Occasionally
  • add paneer cubes, garam masala powder along with required salt
  • mix well and cook for a minute
  • Put In A Tsp Of Chili Powder And Sugar (Optional)
  • Pour Milk Cream (1/4 Cup) And Mix It Together.Let It Cook For 2 Minutes
  • Turn Off Flame And Add A Tsp Of Lemon Juice
  • Serve Hot With Naan/Rotis/Chapathis/Rice
