Stuffed Turnips

Ingredients

  • 4 turnips

  • 150 g ground chicken

  • 12 shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 4 carrot slices

  • 4 broad beans

  • 2 dried shiitake, slices

  • 1 stub ginger

  • 1 tbsp potato starch

  • 1/3 tsp salt

  • (sauce)

  • 300 ml dashi (Japanese soup stock)

  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp mirin

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp potato starch

Let's get Cooking...

  • Cut off the green leaves 2 cm away from the turnip. Cut the top off the turnips and scoop out the insides with a spoon. Cut a small slice off the bottom so that the turnips stay upright. Finely chop the scooped out flesh.

  • Combine the chopped turnip, ground chicken and the ingredients from (A) in a bowl and mix well.

  • Lightly sprinkle the insides of the turnips with potato starch. Then place 2 shrimps in each. Fill them up with the chicken mixture and top it off with shrimp, broad beans and carrot slices.

  • In a casserole dish, combine ingredients for the sauce and mix well. Place turnips inside along with the turnip tops. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 10 minutes at 600 watts.

  • Transfer turnips to a serving dish and serve with extra sauce.
