A Hot Toddy is supposedly a cold remedy and it's made with hot water (or apple cider in this case), honey, spices, and some strong whisky. Hope it's good at preventing colds too cause I'm drinking this all winter long. Just to be on the safe side.
Ingredients
1 Granny Smith Apple
2 Red Delicious Apples
2 Golden Delicious Apples
1 orange
½ cup honey or more depending on taste
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp ground cloves
6 cups water
Scottish whisky (optional)
Direction
1. Core apples.
2. Quarter orange. Peel the skin of 3 of the 4 pieces. Leave the skin on on the 4th piece.
3. Add all ingredients to crock-pot.
4. Cook on high for 5 hours, or low for 8 hours.
5. Remove cinnamon sticks and orange with skin on.
6. Mash apples and oranges.
7. Strain and discard pulp (or reserve for other recipes, like apple pie filling).
8. Serve as is or mix in Scottish whisky to make a Scottish Hot Toddy.
Note #1 Add alcohol at the end, preferably right before serving. Don't cook it with the apples if you don't want the alcohol to evaporate. And you can put as much or as little as you want :)
Note #2 You can use any kinds of apples you want :)
