Ok This is a crazy dessert main ingredient is Water this recipe I found from the Great Depression Era is inexpensive to make and surprisingly very tasty. I added lemon juice to it and it taste like a lemon pie. Let me know what you think? Thank you
Ingredients
1 9 inch deep dish pie crust, unbaked Make to from scratch or store bought.
1 1/4 cups water with 1/4 cup lemon juice
4 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 lemon zest.
5 tablespoons butter, cut into 5 pieces
Instructions: Preheat oven to 400 and set empty pie crust on a baking sheet. Pour 1 + 1/4 cups water mixed in with 1/4 cup lemon juice and lemon zest into the pie crust. In a small bowl, mix together with a fork the flour and sugar. Sprinkle evenly over water in crust. Very important do not stir. Drizzle the vanilla extract over water in pie. Place pats of butter on top of this 1 T at a time throughout the pie Bake at 400 for 30 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes. Pie will be watery when you pull it out of the oven but will gel up and harden as it cools. Allow to cool completely and then cover and place in the fridge until chilled before cutting.
