The BEST Shrimp & Grits Recipe You'll Ever Find

Southern Style Cheesy Shrimp & Grits

Course : Main Dish Cuisine : Southern Servings : 4 PEOPLE Prep Time : 30 MINUTES Cook Time : 45 MINUTES

Ingredients

4 Cups Water 1 Cup Yellow stone-ground grits 1/4 Cup Unsalted Butter 2 Cups Shredded sharp cheddar cheese 1 Pound Fresh raw shrimp peeled and deveined 6-8 Slices bacon Cooked and chopped 2 tbsp Fresh lemon juice 3 Tbsp Fresh parsley chopped 1 Cup Green onions sliced 2 Large Garlic cloves 1 large sweet onion sliced and halved 1 tsp salt 1 tsp black pepper 1 tbsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add grits to the boiling water, add as much salt and pepper that you'd like to the grits, and stir. Cover and allow to cook for 20-25 minutes until water is absorbed, stirring occasionally. When grits are done, remove pot from heat and add cheddar cheese and butter to grits, stir. Cover pot and set aside until ready to serve.

  2. Cook bacon in a skillet until crispy and brown, cover with a splatter guard to avoid any bacon grease splatter. Transfer cooked bacon to a paper towel to drain. While bacon is draining, chop parsley and green onions then chop up bacon into pieces, set aside. Slice large sweet onion and add to skillet that bacon was cooked in, cook onion slices for about 5-10 mins until it browns a bit and is translucent, add chopped garlic, stir. Add shrimp to the skillet with cooked sliced onions and garlic and saute shrimp, about 1 minute per side on medium heat setting. Do not over cook shrimp. Immediately add lemon juice, salt, pepper and garlic powder to shrimp, stir, take off heat and set skillet aside.

  3. To serve shrimp and grits, spoon the grits on a large plate or bowl. Spoon the shrimp and onion mixture over the grits (should be about 6 pieces of shrimp per serving). Sprinkle parsley, green onions and bacon over shrimp and grits, drizzle extra lemon juice over shrimp and grits if you'd like.

Dig in and enjoy!
