Help! I don't know whats missing from my dish and I would love any insight.

Last night I made some Minnesota wild and brown rice in chicken broth, in a separate skillet I cooked some chicken breast, then progressively added diced garlic, sliced crimini mushrooms, and almond slivers, and then the cooked rice medley, and it's bland and all around just nothing special. What can I add to church this little recipe up?
