My first encounter with Kashmiri Kahwa!

When I went to Kashmir in december few years back it was freezing chilly there. It was a climate totally different than what I am accustomed to and to beat the cold there they drink "Kahwa". Some people also say Kahwa is the Kashmiri tea, but I would say it is underestimating it's value by saying that because it is actually little drops of bliss. It is very popular in Kashmir and has a lot of medicinal advantages as well. The very first time I tasted the super popular "Kashmiri Kahwa", I simply fell in love with it. The fragrance, the taste, the warmth, everything about it.

And hence I thought let me share the recipe of this delicious drink with everyone. It will keep you warm in winters.

To make Kahwa, Ingredients:

  1. 4 tsp kashmiri green tea
  2. 4 pinches of saffron (kesar) strands
  3. 2 cardamoms (elaichi), slightly crushed
  4. 8 almonds (badam), blanched and chopped
  5. 12 mm (1/2") piece cinnamon (dalchini)
  6. 2 cloves (laung / lavang)
  7. 2 tbsp sugar

Method: 1. Boil 3 cups of water along with cinnamon, cardamom and cloves and pour over the tea. 2. Leave to infuse over a very low flame. 3. Meanwhile, dissolve saffron in a little water by rubbing it gently. 4. Strain the tea and add the saffron liquid together with almonds. 5. Serve hot.

Your yummy Kahwa is ready!

bon appetit
