Flattened Rice Flakes with Onion & Tomatoes

A traditional Indian Breakfast also known as Poha in India.

Ingredients

400 gms - Uncooked Flattened Rice Flakes (a.k.a - Poha)

3 - Onion

To taste - Salt

1/2 Tsp - sugar

2-3 Tbsp - Oil

1 Tsp - Mustard seeds

A pinch - Asafoetida (a.k.a - Hing)

5-6 - Curry Leaves

5-6 - Green Chilies

1/2 Tsp - Turmeric powder

1 Tsp - Lemon Juice

A bunch - Coriander leaves

To taste - Bhujiya/Namkeen

1 - Tomatoes

Method

  • Wash the Poha((Uncooked Flattened Rice Flakes). Poha should be moist but not mashed.

  • Add salt & sugar and mix it very lightly

  • Heat Oil in pan, and mustard seeds, and when they splutter, add hing(Asafoetida) and curry Leaves. Sauté for 1-2mins. Now add finely chopped onions, and sauté it for 2-3mins

  • Add chopped green chilies, add turmeric powder and mix it well. Sauté it for 2mins

  • Add Poha (Uncooked Flattened Rice Flakes) into the Pan

  • Mix and cook till Poha is heated through. Add lemon juice and mix it lightly

  • Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped onions and tomatoes. Add bhujiya/namkeen while serving.
