So, this sub has been great with helping to aggregate a thread with unique and standout party food recipes but it has also made me realize how poorly I'm setup to catalog my recipes in a single place for easy access later. What good are a bunch of great recipes if I can't find them quickly?
Pinterest just isn't cutting it anymore: I need a recipe app for Android! I've listed my desired features below, and they're kinda in order of personal importance... but not really.
Desired features
-
Easy recipe scaling
-
Importing from allrecipes, food.com, food network, cooks.com, all the other recipe sites, and possibly even blogs
-
Bulk (and individual) importing from Pinterest
-
Automatic importing & keeping url to recipe source for imported recipes (editing/adding url allowed too)
-
Individual recipe and mass recipe exporting/sharing to text (preferably with options to select recipes by checking them off or searching/and selecting all that come up.)
-
Pictures for recipes (importing when possible, and uploading when necessary)
-
Cloud sync / backup
-
Offline backup
-
Offline storage (no internet needed to access recipes)
-
Ability to copy/paste text within/from/to the app.
-
Easy recipe finding by tags, keyword search, folders, etc
-
Easy to switch between multiple recipes (for multi-dish prep)
-
Crossing off ingredients and steps completed while making recipes
-
Multi-timer for various recipes or various parts of recipes being made concurrently
-
Grocery list generating & exporting
-
Pantry generating and exporting
-
Multi-platform access
I'm not coming in blind though, I've done some research myself:
-
Paprika like many others started out as Apple only and has now come to Android. Seems like it covers a lot of the features listed below, but still is missing a lot that the iPhone version has. Development isn't too speedy either, which is even more concerning, because apparently exporting isn't this apps strong suit.
-
Cheftap deems like it really excels at importing from a lot of different places, surpassing most other offerings in this category. Also seems like it's pretty damn expensive to unlock the pro features (which I'd want) at $16 or so a year. I've also heard it is lacking some features that Paprika has.
-
CopyMeThat seems like it isn't quite as feature-rich as the first two, but a lot of ppl still swear by it. The Android app in particular seems to be quite lacking - it's just a website shell/wrapper that actually manages to cripple the functionality a tiny bit if the reviews are to be believed.
-
Evernote may be a bit more pretty and customizable than Google Docs, but I don't think it'll do seemingly simple things like scaling and so on. Good option for those who may enjoy using a physical cookbook, but would like an electronic method and an easier way to share stuff, etc.
-
Google Docs is very searchable, but seems like a somewhat clumsy way to handle things. Probably doesn't have pictures to go with your recipes. Pretty much a manual, edit-intensive process. Might be able to do scaling and such if you use formulas or macros in a spreadsheet, but that seems sorta fussy to set up.
Any recommendations for me on what works best with relation to my want list?
What do you use and what features are crucial to you?
Did I make any mistakes or leave out any material details?
bon appetit
