Do all ingredients of recipes scale linearly?

For instance. I made some Greek Lemon soup. Used a recipe I found online. I doubled everything except the lemon juice as I only had a certain amount. Even with the fewer lemons it was pretty damn sour, and I've had this soup before.

Wondering if there are certain things that you don't need to double/triple/etc when making from a recipe.
