VIETNAMESE FISH SOUR SOUP recipe

Canh Chua Ca (Vietnamese fish sour soup) is not only delicious but also helpful for your health. It is usually served with steamed rice. Canh Chua Ca is cooked from various fishes such as: snakehead, tilapia, carp, perch. Each of fishes will give you particular nutritive and flavor. This is Canh Chua Ca recipe.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of fresh snakehead fish (removed gut, scales, and sliced into small chunks).

  • 3 tomatoes (sliced into wedges).

  • 1/4 green pineapple (peeled, removed eyes, thin and small sliced).

  • 1 small piece of ginger (minced).

  • Green onion, fennel, chilli (chopped).

  • Peeled tamarinds (soak in hot water and filter to get tamarind water).

  • 50 grams of bean sprout.

  • 10 okras(clean and sliced into short chunks).

  • Salt, fish sauce, pepper, sugar, vegetable oil, minced shallots.

Directions

Step 1: Marinate Fish

In a bowl, add fish, minced ginger, 1 serving spoon of fish sauce, 1 teaspoon of salt and marinate for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Cook Canh Chua Ca

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot, fry minced shallots until fragrant. Add tomatoes, pineapple and stir well in 1 minute. Pour desired water and tamarind water into. Cover the pot and boil soup.

When the soup starts boiling, add fishes, okras and bean sprout in and boil for 10 minutes continue. Season salt, fish sauce, sugar to your taste and remove the heat. Add a few pieces of chilli if you prefer.

Step 3: Serve Canh Chua Ca

Scoop canh chua ca into a bowl, add chopped green onion, fennel on top. Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
