Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 cups brown rice
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger, minced
- 6 stalks green onion (about 1 bunch)
Directions:
- Cook rice according to package directions.
- Chop green onion into 1/4 inch pieces.
- Slice flank steak into 1/2 inch pieces.
- Toss flank steak in cornstarch and set aside for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, make the sauce. Start by heating 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over low heat.
- Add minced ginger and garlic. Sauté for approximately 1 minute.
- Add soy sauce, brown sugar and 1/2 cup water to saucepan. Bring contents to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a large skillet, heat half of the remaining vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add half the flank steak pieces and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, flipping once, until brown and crispy. Remove steak from pan with a slotted spoon and place aside on paper towels.
- Add remaining vegetable oil to skillet. Repeat step 10 to cook the remaining steak.
- Once steak is cooked, discard excess oil. Reduce heat to medium-low and return steak to skillet.
- Pour sauce over steak and add green onions. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Serve over rice and enjoy!
