Home Made: Maker's Mark Holiday Eggnog

This holiday eggnog recipe works like a cocktail recipe. Despite a non-traditional technique, the flavor profile is traditional.

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • 3 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg

  • 5 eggs, separated

  • 1/2 cup simple syrup (more to taste)

  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 3/4 cup Maker's Mark bourbon

In a 4 quart saucepan, combine milk, cream, cinnamon sticks, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil over a medium heat then remove from heat and allow to steep until cool.

In a large bowl, beat egg yolks and then whisk in the milk and continue to mix until the mixture is combined and smooth. Refrigerate overnight. Put the egg whites in a clean container and refrigerate along with the egg yolk/cream mixture.

Mix together the bourbon, simple syrup and vanilla. This can be kept at room temperature until needed.

Before serving, beat the egg whites in a large bowl or stand mixer until soft peaks form.

In a large pitcher (or punch bowl), combine egg yolk cream mixture and bourbon syrup. Gently fold egg whites into eggnog until combined.

Pour into chilled classes or mugs and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
