Should marshmallows be moist or dry when stored with hot chocolate mix?

I ask because I'm doing this for a Christmas present. I'm putting both marshmallows and hot chocolate mix in a jar together. Will the moisture make the hot chocolate clump? Will the marshmallows rehydrate enough when hot water is added? They are mini marshmallows, about 1/2 inch wide.
