Chocolate Sour Cream Cookies

Chocolate sour cream cookies have a soft texture is very cake-like and they make a great vehicle for various kinds of icing and sprinkles.

Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour

  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder

  • 2 tsp. baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1/2 cup softened butter

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • 4 cups flour

  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder

  • 2 tsp. baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 1 cup boiling water

Directions

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder and set aside.

In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, cream eggs, sugar and butter until the mixture is pale yellow and stiff.

Mix in the vanilla extract

With the mixer running on low, alternate adding sour cream, water and dry ingredients to the egg mixture to make a smooth batter that has the consistency of thick pancake batter.

Refrigerate the batter for 4-5 hours or overnight.

Drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheets and bake 10 minutes at 375F.

Place finished cookies on a wire rack to cool and decorate with your favorite icing and other decorations.
